Canadian Film Attracts Acclaim

Carolle-Brabant

It's another great year for Canada at the Cannes Festival: Xavier Dolan, a triple-award winner in 2009, is back with Heartbeats, an official choice in the "Un Certain Regard" section that showcases young talent, while ZedCrew - a joint Canada/Zambia venture by 27-year-old Noah Pink - will be premiered at the influential "Directors' Fortnight." The fact that Cannes programmers selected these titles is testament to the great talent of Canada's new generation of filmmakers. And another highlight for our country is renowned Canadian director Atom Egoyan serving as President of the Cinéfondation and Short Film Jury.

Not surprisingly, we also expect tremendous activity at the Canada Pavilion during the Film Market. An impressive 71 companies from across the country will be present. Our initiatives at the Cannes Film Market are aimed at creating strategic sales, export and coproduction opportunities for these companies. We are very proud to be playing such an important role in helping the Canadian audiovisual industry conduct business at Cannes, the number one event for our industry.

In an effort to offer even more visibility for Canadian cinema at Cannes, Telefilm’s Perspective Canada series will be featuring a strong lineup of 12 feature films, accessible to all Market participants. They are: 10½, Crying Out, At Home by Myself...With You, A Wake, The Bang Bang Club, The Con Artist, Twice a Woman, The Child Prodigy, Heartbeats, Off World, Stained and TuTuMUCH.

Finally, it's easy to see why our country has become the international partner of choice for coproductions and why we proudly salute Canadian talent, creativity and passion. Go ahead... make a date with Canada at Cannes!
