Telefilm Canada administers all international agreements governing official coproductions on behalf of the Department of Canadian Heritage. The official coproduction agreements signed between Canada and other countries enable Canadian and foreign producers to pool their resources in order to coproduce films and television programs that enjoy national production status in each of the countries involved. In 2008, the volume of Canadian international coproduction budgets reached $409 million CAD.
To date, Canada has signed official international audiovisual coproduction agreements covering over 50 countries. With a wide range of countries and arrangements, a coproduction with Canada can be a gateway to other partners (tripartite and quadripartite coproductions).
